How Long Does Post Menopause Last—And Is It Ever Really Over?
This is a great topic—post menopause is often misunderstood as a temporary phase, when in reality, it lasts for the rest of a woman’s life. Unlike perimenopause, which is a transitional period leading up to menopause, post menopause isn’t something you "complete"—it’s a steady state of hormonal balance that continues indefinitely.

Why Does Post Menopause Last Forever?
Once a woman reaches menopause (12 months without a cycle), oestrogen and progesterone levels settle at consistently low levels. The ovaries are no longer actively producing reproductive hormones, meaning the body must rely on adrenal glands and fat tissue for minimal oestrogen production. There’s no “next phase” where hormones return to their previous levels—the body simply adapts to a new normal.

How Do You Know When Post Menopause Is Over?
Since post menopause isn’t a transition that ends, the real question is how do you know when your body has fully adjusted? Some clues:
  • Symptoms stabilise or evolve—hot flushes may fade, but joint health, metabolism, and cardiovascular function become new priorities.
  • Your body establishes its long-term hormonal rhythm—if adrenal or thyroid health are well-supported, energy levels and resilience improve.
  • The focus shifts to longevity and wellness—instead of symptom management, women in post menopause often prioritise bone health, metabolic balance, and cognitive function.
What If You’re on HRT? Understanding Potential Challenges
While Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can be an effective tool for managing symptoms, it doesn’t eliminate all health concerns. Many women still experience digestive issues, metabolic changes, and hormone imbalances, even with medication. Here are some important considerations:

Oestrogen Dominance & Metabolic Shifts
For women on oestrogen therapy, there’s a risk of excess oestrogen accumulation, especially if the liver and gut aren’t efficiently processing and eliminating hormones. This can lead to:
  • Digestive discomfort—bloating, sluggish digestion, and changes in bowel movements
  • Histamine sensitivity—symptoms like headaches, flushing, and heightened allergic responses
  • Increased inflammation—which may contribute to joint pain or metabolic sluggishness
Strategies like gut health support, liver detoxification, and balancing oestrogen metabolism can help mitigate these effects.

What Happens If You’ve Had a Hysterectomy?
Women who have had a hysterectomy (especially a total hysterectomy, where both the uterus and ovaries are removed) face a unique challenge: they may not receive progesterone in their HRT prescription. Since progesterone is often viewed as unnecessary without a uterus, it’s commonly omitted—but this can lead to imbalances, including:
  • Sleep disturbances & anxiety—progesterone has a calming effect on the nervous system
  • Bone health concerns—progesterone plays a role in maintaining bone density
  • Oestrogen sensitivity symptoms—without progesterone to balance estrogen, some women experience heightened mood swings or bloating
If you’ve had a hysterectomy and are experiencing these symptoms, discussing bioidentical progesterone options with your practitioner may be beneficial.

The Takeaway
Post menopause isn’t just the absence of periods—it’s a new phase of health that requires informed, proactive choices. Rather than thinking of post menopause as something that “ends,” it’s helpful to see it as a long-term phase where wellness strategies matter more than ever.

Whether you’re managing this transition naturally or using HRT, understanding your body's evolving needs allows you to step into this stage feeling empowered and supported rather than uncertain or reactive. Instead of waiting for symptoms to pass, the focus should be on supporting the body through this stable hormonal stage with tailored nutrition, stress bandwidth optimisation, and functional testing to track key markers.

This ensures that every woman—whether navigating post menopause naturally, with medical support, or after a hysterectomy—feels seen, informed, and equipped with actionable solutions to thrive in this next chapter of life.

Meet Jo

For over 40 years, I’ve been helping people like you take charge of their health with a calm, caring, and supportive approach. Clients (and friends) often say I’m a great listener and highly knowledgeable — qualities I bring to every session to ensure you feel understood, empowered, and on the right path to feeling better.

My passion for wellness started young. When I was 9, my mum was diagnosed with bladder cancer, which shaped my understanding of how deeply health challenges affect not just the individual but their entire family. Watching her recover through a long journey — navigating major surgery, menopause, and a stoma — taught me how important it is to support the whole person: body, mind, and emotions.

This experience has fuelled my lifelong mission to uncover what keeps us feeling our best.

Working with me means learning how to:
  • Balance your blood sugars with nourishing foods tailored to your needs.
  • Reduce stressors — from food intolerances to emotional triggers.
  • Support your hormones, including those that regulate energy, mood, and digestion.
  • Improve gut health and build a thriving microbiome.
  • Strengthen your immune system for resilience.
  • Prioritize rest and relaxation for better energy and well-being.
Why Work with Me?
I understand how overwhelming health struggles can feel. Whether you’re navigating hormonal changes, dealing with persistent pain, or feeling like nothing is working, I’ll provide natural, practical solutions tailored to you. My approach isn’t about quick fixes — it’s about finding lasting answers and helping you build them into daily life.

My process also complements medical treatments, giving you tools and strategies to feel empowered while supporting your body’s natural healing ability.

What you need to know
I’m not just a therapist, I’m a listener, a teacher, and someone who’s walked alongside many clients on their health journeys. I believe in combining the best of science and holistic practices to help you feel your best.

On a personal note, I’m a wife, a mother to 2 beautiful girls, and a proud pet parent to Kiko the cat and Maisie the dog. Just like you, I know how busy life can get, which is why I’m here to make taking care of your health feel achievable and rewarding.
